Looking for an Alarmy Alternative on iPhone? 5 Options Compared
Alarmy made mission alarms famous, but it isn't the only way to make an alarm you can't sleep through. Here's what else is out there, and who each one suits.

Alarmy is probably the best-known "alarm you can't turn off" app. Its App Store listing describes missions like math, memory games, shaking, squats and photos, anti-snooze features for heavy sleepers, a snore and sleep tracker, sleep sounds and bedtime reminders.
That's a lot in one app, and it works well for many people. But there are good reasons to look elsewhere:
- You only want the alarm and missions, not a sleep tracker and sound library
- You want different missions, such as Object Hunt, Face Match or a QR code in another room
- You want a different design or a calmer interface first thing in the morning
- You want something simpler, with one job done well
Full disclosure: we make Tiko, the first app on this list. We've described every app using what its developer says it does, so you can compare fairly.
What makes a good Alarmy alternative?
If you're switching, you probably want to keep what works about Alarmy: an alarm that won't stop until you prove you're awake. So the things to compare are:
- Mission variety. Brain tasks (math, typing), get-up tasks (scanning, photos) and movement (steps, squats).
- Anti-snooze tools. Snooze limits, or a consequence for snoozing.
- Loudness. Plenty of sounds, vibration and ideally a flashlight alarm.
- Price model. What's free and what isn't.

Details come from each app's App Store listing.
1. Tiko Alarm: closest all-round alternative
Tiko is an iPhone and iPad alarm app built around wake-up missions. Like Alarmy, the alarm keeps ringing until you finish a task, and it offers a wide range of them:
- Brain: Math (five difficulty levels, up to 99 rounds), Typing, Memory and Color Tiles
- Get up and go: QR and barcode scanning, and Object Hunt, where you find a requested object and show it to the camera
- Face Match: the alarm stops when the camera recognizes a face you've saved. Recognition runs on your device and face data isn't uploaded (privacy policy)
- Movement: Steps, Shake, Squats and Push-ups
Where Tiko differs most is Snooze Penalty (Tiko Pro): when you snooze, it locks the distracting apps you choose, like social media or games, for as long as you set. There's also a flashlight alarm, over 300 tones, 13 vibration patterns, snooze limits and Gentle Wake Up (App Store).
Choose Tiko if: you want a full mission alarm focused purely on getting up, with a friendly mascot rather than a harsh interface.
Good to know: Tiko is free to download and use. Pro adds unlimited alarms, advanced missions such as Face Match, Snooze Penalty, premium sounds and removes ads.
2. Mathe Alarm Clock: simplest free math alarm
If you only ever used Alarmy's math mission, Mathe Alarm Clock may be all you need. You answer multiple-choice math questions to stop a loud alarm, and the developer says all features are free. It also has lockable alarms, a bedtime reminder and a short optional snooze for shared rooms.
Choose it if: you want one simple brain task and nothing else. See our math alarm guide for the best difficulty settings.
3. Barcode Alarm Clock: best for getting out of bed
From the same developer, Barcode Alarm Clock only stops when you scan a barcode you've chosen, such as the one on your toothpaste. A scan in another room is one of the most reliable ways to get a heavy sleeper upright.
Choose it if: you sleep through everything and only want the scan-to-stop feature. Our QR code alarm guide explains where to put the code.
4. Loud Alarm Clock: for people who don't hear alarms
Loud Alarm Clock doesn't use missions. It focuses on volume-boosted sounds, random sounds so you don't get used to one, and a time after which you can no longer snooze.
Choose it if: your problem is genuinely not hearing your alarm. If you hear it but switch it off half-asleep, a mission alarm is a better fit.
5. Sleep Cycle: a gentler approach
Sleep Cycle tracks your sleep with sound or motion and aims to wake you during your lightest sleep phase within a window you set.
Choose it if: you liked Alarmy's sleep-tracking side more than the missions, and you wake up groggy rather than sleeping through alarms.
Which Alarmy alternative is right for you?
- "I want everything Alarmy does for waking up, with different missions." Tiko.
- "I only used the math mission." Mathe Alarm Clock or Tiko's Math mission.
- "I need to physically get out of bed." A QR or barcode scan in another room: Tiko or Barcode Alarm Clock.
- "I can't hear my alarm." Loud Alarm Clock, or any app with loud tones and a flashlight alarm.
- "I just want gentler mornings." Sleep Cycle, plus a look at why you wake up tired.
Switching tips
- Run both apps for a night or two before deleting your old one, so you're never without a working alarm.
- Grant permissions up front. Camera, motion and notification access let missions work.
- Start with an easier mission and turn it up once you trust it.
- Limit snoozes from day one. Here's how to stop hitting snooze.
